My name is Arantxa King. I am 16 years old and a junior in High School. I am the National Champion and World Youth Champion in the long jump (personal best 20’11.75). I started doing strength training with Mike Pimentel about a year ago. I usually meet with Mike two days a week and depending on my physical wellness, training, and competitive goals, we go through several different strength-training cycles over the course of the year. Working with Mike is not just about reaching your physical potential, but also about understanding the body and how every aspect of training, between ploymetrics, stretching, lifting, and running are all equally dependent on one another. Since I have been working with Mike, I have noticed how my physical strength has developed, especially in the areas which are key for horizontal jumping, thus making everything from my long jump approach to the take off more consistent and dynamic. Mike encourages me to work to my potential, while maintaining a personal and friendly atmosphere. Working with Mike, I always leave feeling that I trained hard, challenged myself, and am one-step closer to my physical and competitive aspirations.

As a person who has suffered from chronic pain for several years, I have tried various kinds of invasive treatments, procedures, medications, and surgeries with very little success. When the pain centers and medical professionals had limited suggestions as to how to further help me, I sought out an alternative form of treatment, leading me to Mike for physical training. After almost two decades of exclusive running and road racing, including eighteen marathons and hundreds of races, I began to notice a lack of upper body strength and loss of muscle mass. Working with Mike, I began a total body strength program geared to my athletic pursuits, including twice weekly weight training sessions, that resulted in an increase in overall strength and muscle mass within weeks. As a result of removal of all knee cartilage in high school and forty years of athletics, I had a total knee replacement in May 05. Thanks to my high level of fitness to due to Mike's program, I was walking 5 miles two weeks after the surgery, and was back on my regular workout progam less than 8 weeks after the procedure. Thanks to Mike and his attention to post PT training, I have increased my range of motion, flexibility, and strength way beyond the norm.
